Every year thousands of teachers suffer accidents and ill health caused by their work. Much of this is preventable.
The NUT works at national and local level to bring about improvement in teachers' working conditions but we need your support.
Safety Representatives play a vital role in securing a safe and healthy working and environment.
Why not become one?
They:
- Carry out workplace inspections.
- Investigate complaints and hazards
- Examine the cause/s of accidents.
You can do these when necessary, so there's no regular commitment or additional workload.
If you are interested, you will get full training and support from the NUT and will be entitled to paid time off during the school day to carry out your role and to receive training.
The NUT's 5 day course for Safety Reps takes place every term at the NUT Training Centre at Stoke Rochford Hall.
If you are willing to become a safety Rep, your fellow NUT members must agree, but an election is not necessary unless there are rival candidates.
Notify your local NUT Officer and Headteacher, then contact the Health and Safety Unit at Hamilton House on 020 7380 4773 or 4776 for more information.
They wil put you in touch with your local Health and Safety Adviser
